Don Enrique Pereira Kliche

Enrique, or “Chiche” for his friends, Born in Montevideo on December 1, 1909.

From a young age he began to work with the Customs Broker Don Ubaldo Seré, who was his mentor for more than 20 years. 

He was an outstanding water polo athlete who was the most successful Uruguayan locally and internationally.

The newspapers of the time reflect that Enrique Pereira Kliche was chosen by the press as the best goalkeeper of the 1936 Olympic Games, a distinction that further highlighted the career of the best Uruguayan water polo player of all time.
He was five times South American champion (1929, 1937, 1938, 1941 and 1949) in nine disputed and is the only player who was present in all the conquests. He represented the country in two Olympic Games, Berlin in 1936 and London in 1948, having an extraordinary performance in the 1936 Games, establishing himself as the best player in his position in the entire competition. He was also a renowned basketball player who had an outstanding participation with Club Atlético Atenas in the early years of the 1930s.

The Company

Above all, the passion of Don Enrique Pereira Kliche was towards his company and the entire international trade sector, especially the Customs Brokers to whom he dedicated many years of work and enthusiasm. He was elected President of the Association of Customs Brokers of Uruguay (ADAU) for three consecutive periods.
He participated actively as the president of ADAU. Among many other things, in the acquisition by the Association of the current building of the Social Headquarters (located at Zabala Street in 1973). He was a great promoter of the profession and performance of Customs Brokers, establishing this profession with the sanction of the Law No. 13,925 of December 17, 1970, which governed until 2014, the year in which the current and current Customs Code of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (CAROU) was approved.
He also had the honor of having been President and founder of ASAPRA, the Association of Professional Customs Agents of the Americas, of which he was one of the signing members of its foundation on November 29, 1969 in the city of Viña del Mar, Chile.
In 1967, the firm Enrique Pereira Kliche became Pereira Kliche Ltda. Customs Broker, a firm that continues with the professional work carried out up to that time in a personal name and becoming its head partner.
His vision of the sector led him to expand the services of Pereira Kliche Ltda. To the main border cities to facilitate international land trade with Argentina and Brazil. It also deployed its presence to the free zones, standing out Zona Franca Colonia, Uruguay.
